We’ve gone through quite a few iterations on the ideal experience and have landed on the following.
How to reliably download and install the library, given that it is going to be around 7GB in size.This process will not be in place for the upcoming alpha release but will be fully testable for beta. Although we are not quite ready to provide teaser examples of how this library will sound, I thought I’d quickly describe how we are designing the downloading and installation process. Just delete menu entries and any shortcuts manually, then delete the App itself, and its links (which will be in ~/.local/bin).In previous posts, I’ve briefly described the playback library Muse has been developing, which we intend to offer as a free external plugin for MuseScore 4. No formal uninstall proceedure is needed to remove the installed AppImage. Tip: if you apply copy to the AppImage and press Ctrl+ Shift+ V in the terminal this will enter the absolute file path of the file that has just been “copied”. Note: Instead of steps 7 and 8 (above) you can, of course, install using the absolute file path instead. The correct file associations are also automatically made. Steps 7–8 ensure that a MuseScore entry appears in the system’s menu and is linked to the new location of the AppImage (/home//.local/bin). install (the dot and slash at the beginning are important!) Right-click inside the directory in which the AppImage is installed and select Open in Terminal.PCManFM: Change the “Execute” option in the drop down list to “Anyone”.Thunar: Check the “Allow this file to run as a program” box.Dolphin: Check the "Is executable" box.Nautilus-based (Nemo, Files, Caja) : Check the “Allow executing file as program” box.The next step varies depending on your file manager:.When the download is complete, right-click on the AppImage and select Properties.Under Linux→AppImage (recommended), click on the Download (64 bit) link.
The easiest way to install the program is by using an AppImage:
